Ingredients Of Dal Pakwan Recipe:

For Dal:

  • 1 cup chana dal (Bengal gram lentils)
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Oil for cooking

For Pakwan:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/4 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for kneading
  • Oil for frying

Step 1: Cooking the Dal

  1. Wash the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the water and transfer the dal to a pressure cooker.
  3. Add 2 cups of water, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt to the dal.
  4. Close the pressure cooker and cook the dal for about 4-5 whistles or until it becomes soft and mushy.
  5. Once the pressure releases, open the cooker and give the dal a good stir to make it smooth.

Step 2: Tempering the Dal

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

  4. Remove the fried pakwan from the oil and drain excess oil on a paper towel.
  5. Repeat the frying process with the remaining pakwan discs.

  1. Place the prepared dal in a serving bowl.
